Founded by Roland Gumpert, a former Audi engineer and motorsports veteran from Audi´s greatest rallye days, the concept of the Apollo first came to live in 2005. As one of the first of its kind, the Gumpert Apollo was developed to be as raw and pure as a race car, but with road homologation - the term Hypercar was not even known back in the early 2000s. Ideenion, at that time named HS Genion GmbH, was part of the early stage development of this very special vehicle and accompanied this project until the first pre-series cars that were built at our facilities. These pre-series vehicles were used for testing and media presentations. Journalists back then were mostly speechless after riding this cannon ball of a car.
Apart from its very distinctive looks and sound, the vehicle actually set a new benchmark in terms of performance for road-legal supersports cars.
The Gumpert Apollo achieved a 7:11.57 lap time record at the famous Nürburgring in August 2009. This record could only be broken more than four years later by the Porsche 918 Spyder.
"From 270 km/h, the car generates more downforce than it weighs, and even without a racing wing, 360 km/h is no problem." - Roland Gumpert
